With the birth of every baby, a new Mother is born. Sons and daughters may know her as the same person, but for each one she is known as “Mother,” and loved and revered as the only one. It is the way of God’s providence always to create anew, repeating Mother love throughout the world. It is God’s way to create again and again a Mother for each person, that everyone may know and love one Mother who hears her child and warms it with a singular blanket of love.

Each baby learns to lisp the title of “Mother,” to speak the word, and to sing the name. The song continues in a life-long paean of praise from every child and man and woman.

It is in the music which every Mother hears and accepts as a return of love and gratitude. It is the music that every Mother recognizes with love. It is the sound which gives joy to a Mother’s heart as the years complete the cycle of her life.

It is in the word “Mother” that love is ever renewed. It is in the word “Mother” that love sounds over and over like the sighing of the wind, proclaiming our love for the one who gave us birth.

Words fail to capture the unique beauty of motherhood. Like all great achievements in life, the gift of Motherhood ranks among life’s greatest mysteries. The hidden, often unremembered sacrifices; the subtle joys and unexpected thrills of a Mother’s life cannot be described adequately. To those of you who are Mothers, I salute you, and ask God’s blessing upon you and may your love continue to bless
others.

Happy Mother’s Day!
